Who am I?

I couldn't find a picture of me, so I just used this GQ model
Who am I?
Well let me tell you...

My name is Mike Gorrell. I'm a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, studying architecture and pursuing a minor in communications.

Why study those?
Glad you asked!

I'm studying architecture for many reasons:
1) Chicks dig architects.
2) It's a really manly profession.
3) Swagger is part of the job description.

Okay so in addition to those incredibly convincing reasons, I seriously think that architecture is the perfect field for me. First of all, I love talking and interacting with people (which might explain the comm minor). I feel comfortable talking with people I don't know, and can carry on a natural conversation pretty easily. Second, I love problem solving. Jobs you encounter as an architect are exactly that; the client has certain restrictions and requirements that are necessary for their problem, and it is my job to come up with a way that not only meets those criteria, but do so in a way that is engaging to the audience and makes them see and think in ways they haven't before. Which brings me to my third reason... I love creativity. Unusual solutions to common problems can make me absolutely giddy. Or make me go "Huh, that's interesting". One of the two. Anyway, as an architect, I have the opportunity to come at a problem in any number of solutions, all of them being very different in their implementation.

Another passion I have in my life is music. Currently I'm one of the worship music leaders at our Campus Crusade for Christ here at U of I, and I have been involved with worship music for the past 5 years or so. Also I have a few music covers and whatnot on YouTube (watch at your own risk http://www.youtube.com/cartoonydude707), and I really enjoy most any music genre. Blending this passion with my love for architecture has made me consider specializing in acoustical design as a career (concert halls, worship spaces, etc.).

But what REALLY defines you?
Wow, you are just filled with great questions!

The most important thing about me is my relationship with Jesus Christ. I've been a Christian for about 10 years now, and daily I am learning new things and developing a deeper relationship with the Almighty Creator. Spiritually I have matured a lot since leaving for college, and I would love to tell you more about it if you'd like to hear!
